Holiday Self-Care: Five Stress Relief Tips

There is so much to do and so little time to do it in. Between shopping, wrapping, family and work obligations, and trying to catch up with friends, it can be a challenging time of the year for your inner wellbeing.

Don’t let the stress get to you – combat it with these five self-care tips.

1) Carve out time for yourself.

Sounds easy, right? But when you’re caught up in the extra tasks the holiday brings, you might tend to put your needs on the backburner. Take a little time out each day to sit quietly, relax and recharge. Grab an eggnog and make it festive!

2) Employ an attitude of gratitude.

Did you know that studies show practicing gratitude is a proven stress-buster? Take a moment each day to write out three things you’re grateful for and feel the stress fall away.

3) Laugh.

Humor is another fabulous stress reducer, and has the added benefit of helping to cope with challenging situations. A quick search of YouTube or TikTok for a funny video will help you laugh off the stress. Try this one out for size: Walter the cat steals Christmas

4) Deep breathing, meditation, or dance.

Christmas cookies, spiked eggnog and crowds can make your body feel sluggish. To help your body relax and recharge, try one of these breathing techniques or a short guided meditation. If you’re feeling like your body needs some action, you can dance your troubles away.

5) Simply say “No.”

Know your limits. If you’re feeling as if you’re at the end of your rope, say “no” to activities that will push you over the edge. It’s okay to say “no,” and if you’re not sure how, here are some tips.
